What motivates men to be great? Is it something they are born with or is it something that you have to strive for?
In this world that we live in today would we even realize what greatness looked like? On my mind latly has been this, glory and honor. We live in a world that has a completely twisted outlook on both. Honor and glory… two things that people used to give there lives for, fight for and live for. Now days I don’t think many people even think for one second about them.
How could we have fallen so far? From glory and honor to its all about me,me,me. So why be great? Why even try? Im sure back when glory and honor where everything, nobody thought like this. Can you imagine living in those times? Wow… it must have been great. Hardly any selfishness anywhere. Everyone out for the greater good of a couse.
I often wonder about the strength of men. Even the disiples after seeing with there own eyes the miricles that jesus did, still doubted him and questioned him. And when he seamingly needed them the most they where nowhere to be found or they where denieing that they even knew who he was. Jesus was their friend and they let this happen to him. He told them what was going to happen.

The lowly man should glory in his high position.

James 1:9 KJB "Let the brother of low degree REJOICE in that he is exalted."

NASB "the brother of humble circumstances IS TO GLORY in his high position";

NIV "the brother in humble circumstances OUGHT TO TAKE PRIDE IN his high position."

RSV, ESV, and Holman: "Let the lowly brother BOAST IN his exaltation."

I believe that glory and honor is only achieved by a man when he follows the path of Christ...Taking up his cross, dieing to his fleshly sinful nature, and being persecuted, despised, and ridiculed the whole way. This is the path that Jesus walked on this earth. A path of suffering, but also a path of integrity and LOVE in spite of his sufferings. He was "THEY SUFFERING SERVANT". And if we are to attain glory and honor in this life and more importantly in the life to come, we should follow His example.

Our daily seeking of His presence is the only way we can have the strength to live as he lived! But His promise of his Spirit within us is true. As we seek Him and keep our minds focused on his Words, He will fill us with His presence and we will be over comers and liberators, just as He was.

Jesus said, "It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." Gal 5:1

For us Marines our corps values are of Honor Courage and Commitment. These virtues play a part in greatness but i dont think its understood to its depth that it is. Not by most marines that havent bin in combat or deployed to humanitarian efforts anyway. We have a great respect for the thought of it, but its not until your in real deep in a situation you cant control that makes a man or brakes him. same goes for life, relationships, spirituality, your souls decisions. when push comes to shove who do you turn to. Jesus is our best bet for sure. Everything else falls short and can fail. God never fails. no matter how wrecked our life or someone elses life situation is. just look at Job from the old testiment. I look up to that kind of men. He achieved greatness but he was humbled down in what he had. perhaps for a bit the thought everything he had couldnt get any greater. our definition of things get crowded in lifes fog i think. But Hes the lamp for my feet when i walk through that fog.
